{Issue 2} What Kind of Mortadella Do You Want?
It was finally my turn to order at the counter. I was at Major Market, a spot in Escondido that has really good meats.
“What kind of Mortadella do you want?” The lady behind the counter looked at me for an answer.
“The best one you have,” I said.
“Got it”
“Thinly sliced, half a pound”
That was all we both needed to know; she went off doing her deli meat thing. The customer next to me glanced my way. Is she famous? I imagined him thinking.
$16 later, I gracefully exit this beloved market, shoulders squared back, eyes straight ahead, a little skip in my step, with the best mortadella money can buy. I was feeling good.
I went home and made a sandwich. Later that day, my foodie friend came over. I made her one too.
“Is this pate? It’s really good”
“No, it’s just really, really good mortadella.”
What I’m trying to say is this: sometimes the best part of our entire day (our week even) is the mortadella that we didn’t skimp out on. It has a funny way of aligning all our values and chakras. Suddenly we’re firing on all cylinders. Why? Because we invested in not good, not great, but the best and it felt so right. And in this relatively short time on earth, we relished in all the flavors, lightness and beauty that fancy bologna has to offer.
That’s what we believe at Poiema. Great is better than good, and when it comes to architecture, we strive for the exceptional. Just like that perfect mortadella, our designs aren’t just about meeting needs—they’re about enriching your life.
